Kilteely Tidy Towns

The Kilteely Tidy Towns Committee would like to thank all business and residents who have contributed to the overall appearance of the village.  We have achieved a massive success in obtaining an increase of 13 marks for 2010, but we feel as a committee that we have achieved greater success and would be placed higher only for the fact that we are a new entry.  We also believe that the benefits from the work we have put in will be reaped in 2011 and onwards.  It’s a wonderful feeling when you drive into our village from the approaching roads and you are met with the warmness and colour and fruits of our hard work.  Our church and grounds, as well as the Jubilee Garden are a wonderful enhancement to our community and look magnificent.  Its credit to Fr Hayes and his committee, and was admired by many outsiders on the day of St Patrick & St Brigid’s Church Golden Jubilee.

The judge was very impressed with the overall appearance of our Village and particularly of the following:  approach roads, Welcome to Kilteely Signs, Flowerbeds, window boxes and hanging baskets.  Cill Bhride did us proud in its presentation, the landscaping, maintenance and general upkeep of the area was rated highly amongst the judges.

On behalf of Kilteely Tidy Towns a very big thank you to everyone for their help support and hardwork, it was a great honour to see the benefits reaped for this.  We would like to express a special word of Thanks to Tim O’Mahoney our local FÁS supervisor and Mike O’Connell our local FÁS employee in all their efforts in helping us to achieve our goal.  We would also like to thank the participants of the KDC Summer Youth Employment scheme who have been a tremendous help to us in this project it was a great credit to the youth of our community to see what they could achieve during their summer break.

We would also like to thank George and Philip Murphy for the removal of the disused petrol pumps and the tidying up of the derelict site on the hospital road and also to Philip for cutting the grass.  To Sean McCarthy for cutting all the grass verge on the approach roads.  To Limerick county council and their staff for all the maintenance work throughout the year, it was very much appreciated.  To Eric Flynn who controls weeds and grass in our area.  To Toss Ryan for looking after the graveyard and church grounds.  Also, to all the committee for looking after the flowers and litter.  To Frank Hanley a member of the National Adjudicating panel for his presentation with slides on Tidy Towns, which was of great benefit to us in our own project.

Submitted on behalf of John McCarthy Kilteely Tidy Towns Co-ordinator.
