Community Games Our 38 athletes who represented our area last weekend in Mungret at the county athletics finals all gave of their best and were a credit to our area. We had 6 relay teams from U10 mixed to U15 mixed. While none of the teams won medals, most of them will be able to compete in the same age groups again next year. U10 mixed relay: Conor Egan, Aoife Connery, Daniel Gleeson, Erin Hannon. They qualified from their heat to the semifinal. U12 girls: Theresa Bermingham, Tara Fahy, Grainne Condon, Ann Ryan. They qualified from their heat to the semifinal. U12 boys: Eamon O’Regan, Stephen O’Dea, Jamie M cCarthy, Fionn Murphy. They qualified from heat and were unlucky in the semi final when one of the team slipped. U14 girls: Margaret Ryan(K), Brid Condon, Margaret Ryan(B), Martina Hanley. They reached the final. U14 boys: James O’Regan, William and Timmy O’Keeffe, Brian Fanning. They came 5th in the final U15 mixed: Gemma O’Riordan, Diarmuid Murphy, Maire Condon, Sean O’Dea. They ran in the final. Our marathon runners competed on Thursday: both Maire Condon and Gemma O’Riordan ran the 7 km course and qualified in the top four as members of the team to represent Limerick at the National Finals in Athlone. Also on Thursday Jamie McCarthy and Eamon O’Regan took part in the long puck. The highlight of the weekend for us was the emergence of many new runners: Aisling Barry, competing for the first time at this level came through her heats, semifinals and came 3rd in the final of the U8 60m. Molly Horan also reached the final of the U8 80m. Erin Hannon, aged 8yr stormed home in the heat of the U10 200m, came 2nd in the semifinal and won silver in the actual final. This was a fantastic achievement since she will still be eligible for the same event next year. Our older runners also figured in the medals: Brid Condon won cert in the U14 800m and Sean O’Dea won bronze in the 1500m. Our U14 sprinters Timmy and William O’Keeffe and Brian Fanning all reached the final with Timmy taking bronze and Brian cert. Brian will be eligible again next year for the same event. William was 5th. Our future athletes made their debuts in the fun runs: Rebecca Harty, Evan McCarthy, Leon and Evan Horan and Suzanne O’Regan . The O’Regan family did the honours in the family relay. Our other athletes included Shannon McCarthy in the U8 60m, Sinead Murphy and John Egan in the 80m, Merissa Bermingham- Sheehan, Aoife Connery, Martina O’Regan in the hurdles, Conor Egan and David O’Connell in the U10 100m, Tara Fahy, Philip Murphy and Ann Ryan in the U12 100m, Margaret Ryan(K), Margaret Ryan(B) and Martina Hanley in the U14 100m, Jack O’Connell in the 200m, Fionn Murphy, Stephen O’Dea, Grainne Condon and Theresa Bermingham in the 600m, Diarmuid Murphy in the 800m and James O’Regan in the shot putt. Special thanks to all the parents for their commitment without which it would not have been possible to participate in somany events. They all encouraged and applauded all the children and helped greatly in developing a team spirit. Thank you to Declan and Susan Murphy for kindly bringing a gazebo which acted as our team headquarters!! Training has now ceased for all the athletes except our marathon runners. We hope to resume again early next spring... |

Scór na nÓg: We had a fantastic day in Athlone on Sat. The lads performed brillantly. The opposition was top class and we had a very anxious wait. But once the fear an ti said ' the winner of the nuacleas, Limerick, Kilteely-Dromkeen' the place erupted, our huge following stood, applauded and shouted, it was very emotional. The long journey home in the bus went quickly as we had a great sing song and we were amazed with the amount of talented singers we had on board. Again congratulations to the 8 actors/actresses, Eamonn, Rachael, Dawn, Calvin, Laura, Yvonne, Caoimhe and Sarah, their parents, the loyal supporters, Gerry the bus driver and finally to Tom, Liam and Mairead who led the team.
Some Photos of the day…. The cast and mentors would like to express their thanks to all their supporters. |
